PLANNING FOR THIS VOYAGE
This voyage has been long in the making. It started several years ago when Crystal Cruises looked at the feasibility of offering a voyage that transited the Northwest Passage. It required careful planning and coordination with local authorities. No cruise ships the size of Crystal Serenity had ever cruised this route. The public was not aware of this plan until mid-July of 2014, when this voyage was announced and opened for sales. We booked it the first day and only a few weeks later the voyage was completely sold out. Our room category sold out in only a couple of days. We are staying in the same location we typically sail, but instead of being on the port side (left side) we chose to book the starboard side (right side) because we felt it would provide even greater views of scenery from our room.
THE ITINERARY
We board Crystal Serenity on August 6, 2016 for a ten day cruise from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to Seward, Alaska. This voyage is followed by the 32 Day Northwest Passage Itinerary which commences on August 16 from Seward, Alaska and will continue until September 17 when we disembark Crystal Serenity in New York City.
Escort Vessel

Crystal Serenity will be escorted by RRS Ernest Shackleton vessel as part of the Northwest Passage Voyage. This vessel will be operated by British Antarctic Survey (BAS) which is headquartered in Cambridge, United Kingdom. It will provide operational support to Crystal Serenity. This will include ice breaking assistance should this be necessary and the vessel will carry additional safety and adventure equipment.
